I am so impressed with my discovery a few years ago. Actually, let credit be due where it ought to be due.
A very good friend of mine introduced me to a Windows software utility namely: “Everything”.
And admittedly this friend of mine is not so much from an IT background. All I can say is: “Thanks Hennie!”.
Okay back to this awesome utility for your PC.
Like most of you (I believe) I love Windows 7. But, and always a but.
Although Windows 7 does a great job of being an Operating System there are a few areas where it really lacks.
And by lacking I mean lacking.
One of those areas is the search capabilities.
Firstly – I never trusted it. Not sure why but it feels like it does not give me as a user enough feedback in regards to how many files & folders were searches. And most probably because it appears buggy.
Sometimes it searches at a medium pace and when doing another search (exactly the same search) after the first search it is “dog” slow!
I also noticed that it actually slows down my overall performance of my Windows 7 OS. When disabling indexing it felt to me I gain a little speed.
So back to business… I downloaded this tool called “Everything“.
Installed it – let it alone for a few minutes to do its job to index all my files.
And never since have I ever had a to look for a file. You can do wildcard searches with lightning speed.
It amuses me how small-time programmers can “out-best” Microsoft at many tasks? And sometimes you will find it is a single developer aka “One man band” 🙂
